In spite of Steve Stricker winning the PGA Tour 12 times many people still consider him to be lacking the adequate amount of determination. It might be due to his not winning any big competition in spite of having quite a few chances at them.
It can also be due to the fact that he’s playing a lot less and skipping competitions. It might also be because family is a bigger priority than winning trophies for him now. Some people consider him to be lacking a competitive spirit.
Jerry Kelly said that he considers Stricker to be a bit more competitive than he appears.
This competitive factor is an important factor that Stricker is adding to the US team, being an assistant of Captain Tom Watson.
The Ryder Cup takes place once every two years between the US and European teams. Each team consists of 12 members, for the last six competitions the European teams have won five times and in this year’s competition they are the defending champions, Since 1933, the American teams have never been able to secure a victory.
Stricker was hoping that he would be participating as a player but he has problems in his hips and also in the back which did not let him play. But he will help in leading the US team.
He said that it will be fun for him to be able to be a part of that atmosphere
Stricker is a good choice for the role of assistant captain, because he has extensive amount of experience and he also has a good relationship with the players of the team.
Hunter Mahan said that if anyone has a problem or they want t share something, Stricker would be the one they will be going to.
Kelly said regarding the usefulness of Stricker that he probably has helped everyone on the team before and thus he is a very important addition to the team.
With Tiger Woods set to be out of action at least till December, Brandel Chamblee has found a new object of scorn in his path in the form of Phil Mickelson, with the analyst for the Golf Channel claiming that the veteran Ryder Cup star should start owning up more about the string of defeats that the United States has suffered in the event in recent years.
The veteran American blasted US Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson for his strategies during the event following the press conference after the event. He also said that Paul Azinger was a much better captain than Watson as he allowed the players to become invested.
The repercussions of those comments made by Mickelson have been widespread with Watson himself saying that there was definitely some communication gap between him and the players and Chamblee blaming everyone from Phil Mickelson from Tiger Woods, despite his absence from the event for the corruption of the entire Ryder Cup experience.
And now, Chamblee, who is known for his outspoken outbursts at players, has called Mickelson a liar.
Chamblee stated that Mickelson had claimed during that press conference that Watson’s players didn’t have a say in the team decision but he knows for a fact that Watson walked with the players and their caddies and asked them who they wanted as their teammates.
So, Chamblee believes that Mickelson was not entirely being truthful with his comments and claimed that Watson went about his captaincy in very much the same way as Paul Azinger had done in 2008.
He also said that these comments by Phil Mickelson makes Watson the scapegoat whereas all the players especially Lefty should be taking responsibility for the string of losses that the United States has suffered in the Ryder Cup over the past couple of seasons.
Is it a McTurmoil between Mcllroy and McDowell- well it has to be seen through reports. Mcllroy has sued to get released from from Horizon Sports Management’s contract. Similarly McDowell has hard feelings for Mcllroy after his decision.
The duo seems to be at loggerheads. A lawsuit was filed by Mcllroy on McDowell that too a day before his marriage and more so the nuptials were not attended by Mcllroy. McDowell has however always appreciated Mcllroy in public. More so since both were in the Ryder Cup scoring in the last match with two and a half points. But now whether they will formulate as a team or not is questionable. The case is due after the Ryder Cup till 2015. But has the incident blown out of proportion by the media is to be seen.
The date of the lawsuit is appaling as the question is that Mcllroy got the wedding date of McDowell to destroy his ceremony! MD Conor Ridge states that the lawsuit was filed in order to inflict maximum tarnish of the company’s image in front of the media and that too when he knew that two of the company’s men were attending the wedding of McDowell. It has pointed through several inferences in the mail provided to the lawyers that the wedding day was labelled as ‘D-Day’ which makes it an inquisitive case. But the whole thing seems to have been an issue of trust factor between the company and Mcllroy. What promted him to act in such a manner is well known to him but what action will the case conclude in can be foretold by his fans. Both play professional game and have a reputation of their own which is already under the scanner.
